| Abstract: | MUSKOKA - Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services and YWCA Muskoka are co-producing The Good Body, a play written by Eve Ensler, the author of The Vagina Monologues. The play will be performed as a fundraiser for two Thursday nights, April 2 in Huntsville at the Algonquin Theatre, and April 23 at the Rene Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge. The Good Body is a humorous and poignant look at women's ongoing struggles with positive body image as they age. Directed by Catherine Cole, the play will showcase the talents of five local actors including Jeanine Spring, Robin Clipsham, Stacey Schat, Taylor Johann and Amy Bridle. Spring plays the narrator; Ensler and the other actors play numerous international characters. "The play challenges society's objectification of women's bodies and enables women to celebrate themselves in their entirety," explained Lauren Power, executive director of sexual assault services. "Both our organizations share a mission to end violence against women and that includes increasing the awareness of the negative impact of systemic objectification and how this devalues women and enables violence against women." The Bracebridge production takes place during National Victim's Week and will include a reception, displays of local artwork and information about women's services in the region. The YWCA will hold its annual general meeting for all members just prior to the reception from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 (plus HST) and will be available through the Rene Caisse Theatre and the Algonquin Theatre.
