Title: Gallery helpers vital, but roles must change
Authors: Chris Aronsten is a writer and ticketing supervisor at the Art Gallery of NSW
Source: Sydney Morning Herald, The. 09/19/2014.
Abstract: In 2006, I took a job at the Art Gallery of NSW, supervising the volunteers who sell our exhibition tickets. I had never worked with volunteers before, but over the next few years I became acquainted with nearly 200 dedicated people who donated their time once or twice a month to the gallery. I also came to understand why they did it. It was fun; it was social; it was a chance to give back to an institution they loved; and it made them feel valued to be the first people visitors had contact with as they arrived.
