Abstract: The article focuses on a study which aims to sequence and assemble the genome of the western lowland gorilla by applying primarily single-molecule, real-time sequencing technology as well as a novel assembly algorithm. It provides details about the importance of the accurate sequence and assembly of genomes in the understanding of evolution and genetic variation as well as the outcome of the study.
