Abstract: An essay is presented which explore the ways that humans have envisioned the future of mortality through an examination of futuretype tropes. It utilizes exemplary narratives from both fiction and nonfiction to identify two potential implications that underlie the stories about extending and transcending mortality, including science fiction, "Frankenstein" fictional narratives within films "Blade Runner" and "The Matrix" which communicates a similar warning on the dangers of technology.
