Abstract: Circadian rhythms are altered in major depressive disorder (MDD) as showed by changes in circadian patterns of gene expression in the human brain of subjects affected by MDD [1]. Similarly, one study suggests that clock gene expression in tissues related to pregnancy is altered in mice during pregnancy, although this has not been tested yet in humans [3]. I CLOCK i hyper-methylation and I CRY1, PER1, and PER2 i hypo-methylation are suggestive of a delay in circadian rhythms that is typical of pregnant women with a history of MDD as showed by shifts in dim light melatonin onset [[9]]. We hypothesize that depression in pregnancy causes a further delay of circadian rhythms (already present in physiological pregnancy) [11]. [Extracted from the article]
