The way in which Abraham Kuyper conceived the nature and role of education in modern European society was recorded in an incipient character in his inaugural lecture at the Free University of Amsterdam. The present memoir serves as a starting point for a brief retrospective of his life and part of his fruitful thinking, as well as an embryonic analysis of the legacy of this modern reformer for the interaction between theology and education. In his speech, he clarifies that education is a divine gift given to humanity in order to keep it free. Furthermore, he proposes that it plays a key role in the social dissemination of knowledge. According to Abraham Kuyper, education must have its own dimension, always appearing independently of the Church and the State. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

A forma como Abraham Kuyper concebia a natureza e o papel da educação na sociedade moderna europeia ficou registrada em caráter incipiente em sua palestra inaugural na Universidade Livre de Amsterdã. A presente memória nos serve de ponto de partida para uma breve retrospectiva da vida e de parte do seu profícuo pensamento, bem como uma análise embrionária do legado deste reformador moderno para a interação entre teologia e educação. Em seu discurso, ele esclarece que a educação é um dom divino concedido à humanidade a fim de mantê-la livre. Além disso, ele propõe que ela possui um papel fundamental na disseminação social do conhecimento. Segundo Abraham Kuyper, a educação deve habitar uma dimensão própria, apresentando-se sempre de maneira independente da Igreja e do Estado. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
