| Abstract: | In this appreciative response to Hoskins-Murphy's paper, I expand on her overarching theme of the emotional stickiness of motherhood and the many ways the mother's affective adherence to the needs of the child pulls against her own autonomous development – indeed often pulls against her rational sensibility. I also expand on the idea of future vision, the parent's ability to imagine a future for the child and scaffold a direction toward that future. In addition, I describe the writing techniques that Hoskins-Murphy uses to illustrate her ideas and to make this such an effective paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
