Abstract (English): This quantitative study was aimed at characterizing self-injuring behaviors and analyzing possible differences in psychological aspects among adolescents according to such behaviors. The sample consisted of 202 high school students of both genders between 12 and 18 years old. Using the Self-Harm Questionnaire (SHQ-E), the SHAPS scale, the State-Trait Depression Questionnaire (IDER in Spanish), and the Modified Coping Strategies Scale (EEC-M in Spanish), self-injury was identified in 38.1% of the participants evaluated, with a higher prevalence in women (48.3%) than in men (25%). Skin cutting was the most common self-injuring action and was mainly associated with family problems, feelings of anger, impulsivity, and lack of planning. The study revealed that adolescents who engaged in self-injury exhibited higher depressive symptomatology (trait and state). Moreover, in coping strategies, they demonstrated a greater aggressive reaction and emotional avoidance, along with a lower inclination to seek social and professional support. The study contributed to the construct of self-injuring behaviors and related psychic, mood, and behavioral aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
