Abstract: The main focus of the article is the environmental impact of sand mining on the Mekong Delta, which is shrinking due to sediment loss exceeding natural deposition. The Mekong Delta, covering 40,500 square kilometers, supports diverse ecosystems and a significant portion of Vietnam's agriculture and fisheries. Since 2005, the delta has been losing land partly because upstream dams trap sediment and sand mining removes sediment at rates 6 to 15 times greater than natural supply.
