Abstract: The author expresses his concern on the significant overlap between mental and physical health issues in Great Britain. It has been reported that there are 10,000 diabetes sufferers in seven countries, mostly in the developed world. Chronic disease conditions have associated psychological symptoms that influence the sufferer's experience of their disease and even sometimes its physical course. The reverse is also true--that mental health conditions influence physical disease: indeed the two are intimately related. Yet recognition of this relationship is poor among healthcare professionals in general.
