| Abstract: |
The article focuses on the factors that influence the changes in the conviction rate for indecent exposure in England and Wales. Indecent exposure is one of the commonest sexual offence in such places where the offenders are considered exhibitionists. Exhibitionism is usually common to males and is less understood sexual disorders where it is described as exposure of the genitals to members of the opposite sex in a public situation. Since there is not an exact estimate of the prevalence of exhibitionism in the country, it is best to measure such activity through the conviction rate in the community. The results support the idea that the increasing conviction rate for Indecent Exposure has to be seen as part of the increase in delinquent behavior rather than as sexual phenomenon. |
