Abstract: The article discusses the results and methods being applied on the study conducted by the New York State Department of Health regarding human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among newborn infants in New York. According to the article, the process starts by carrying on a blood test among infants which will be directly forwarded to the hospital's Newborn Screening Program for the initial examination, as well as to the HIV Seroprevalence Laboratory for blind testing. In addition, results show that of the 653,117 specimens examined, 10,125 belong to women residing in the area while the remaining 2,408 were from unknown addresses. Furthermore, for the remaining 640,584 samples, the total seroprevalence rate was 0.66%.
