Abstract: The article offers information on a segregation analysis performed in a sample of nuclear families of probands to study the role of genetic factors in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) associated with hippocampal atrophy (HA). It is stated that MTLE is one type of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) frequently associated with mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS). The analysis concludes that a major gene inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern can influence MTLE associated with HA.
