Abstract: The article discusses health care reform in the U.S., examining the obligations of the state with regards to the health of the human body, the quality of medical care, and U.S. residents who are uninsured and underinsured. The authors examine regional disparities in medical costs and medical care quality in the U.S., the growth of profit-driven health maintenance organizations (HMOs), and the costs of the federal insurance program Medicare.
