| Abstract: | The article presents a study that establishes whether artemisinin resistance has spread on the Thailand-Burma border. It shows that parasite clearance half-lives lengthened from a geometric mean of 6.2 hours in 2001 to 3.7 hours in 2010. It indicates that the proportion of slow-clearing infections has increased from 0.6% in 2011 to 20% in 2010. It reveals that genetically determined artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium falciparum emerged along the border at least eight years ago. |
