Abstract: The article discusses a report of a genomic analysis of 300 meningiomas, the most common form of primary brain tumors, with information on the discovery of genetic mutations in the proapoptotic E3 ubiquitin ligase TRAF7. Topics include the rate of prevalence for mutations in TRAF7; concurrent mutations in the KLF4 transcription factor which plays a part in inducing pluripotency; and the rate of mutation in the AKT1 and the SMO genes in non-NF2 mutant meningiomas. A comparison of non-NF2 and mutant NF2 meningiomas is presented, with information on targeted therapeutics for meningioma subtypes.
