Abstract: The article presents a multicentre randomised trial aimed at comparing the rates of additional colonic studies following computed tomographic colonography (CTC) as alternative to colonoscopy in patients with symptoms indicative of colorectal cancer. It suggests the need for guidelines to minimize the referral rate following CTC. Results demonstrate that CTC missed 1 of 29 colorectal cancers, while colonoscopy missed none, with no serious adverse reactions reported. INSET: Panel: Research in context.
