| Abstract: | The author reports on the mentoring program Phuture Phoenix. Phuture Phoenix was founded in 2001 by former teacher Cynthia Shepard, who is the wife of the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay. The goal of the organization is to assist children in envisioning a brighter future by increasing the number of students who graduate from high school and attend college. Various aspects of the program are discussed including college students building relationships with fifth grade students and having students become involved in their community. |
