Abstract: The article reflects on ways to encourage high school students to go to college, focusing on aspects of student development beyond academic achievement. The author looks at various college-readiness services, the use of psychological studies related to student behavior and motivation to foster a developmental approach for college preparation, and the value of identity exploration. Also discussed is the need for training among teachers and counselors to support college-preparation initiatives.
