Abstract: The article reports on actions the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) took in 2012 to close several academic programs and its Malcolm Price Laboratory School and the severance contracts it offered tenured professors. Topics include UNI college teacher layoffs resulting from budget shortfalls, issues of academic freedom and college governance, and communication between the United Faculty (UF) union of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and UNI President Dr. Benjamin Allen.
