| Abstract (English): |
The article from Istmo Magazine titled "Universities are NOT factories of employees: The new Institute of Humanities reaffirms the comprehensive education vocation of the Panamerican University and IPADE Business School" addresses Martha Nussbaum's criticism of education and its focus on economic benefits. It mentions Margaret Spellings' report on inequality in access to higher education and the lack of attention to arts and humanities. It also mentions Governor Pat McCrory's plan to adjust the education curriculum to the needs of businesses. The article emphasizes the importance of university education in the development of critical thinking and the pursuit of truth. The text talks about the importance of universities maintaining their institutional identity and focusing on the search for truth. It mentions that in a world characterized by intellectual and cultural tribalism, it is crucial to recover the university's desire to seek and defend the truth. The identity of a university is built on the values, virtues, attitudes, and beliefs shared by its members. In the case of the Panamerican University and IPADE, their identity focuses on placing the person at the center of educational activities and recognizing their dignity. Additionally, the importance of the Institute of Humanities in promoting research and teaching in Christian coordinates, as well as dialogue with the contemporary world, is highlighted. The need to preserve the identity and values of universities is emphasized in a context where the student has become a customer and education has become a commercial product. The Institute of Humanities at the Panamerican University seeks to promote reconciliation between faith and reason in research and teaching. Its goal is to regain confidence in revealed truth in order to engage in dialogue about the dilemmas of contemporary culture. The presence of religion in the university is fundamental, as it ignores an essential dimension of the human person. The Institute aims to educate intellectuals capable of influencing the realm of knowledge and contributing to human progress. [Extracted from the article] |

[Extracted from the article] |
