The war in Gaza and the Middle East, and between Russia and Ukraine, overlap with more than fifty other armed conflicts around the globe. In a world whose international contours are in flux, it is more urgent than ever to call for the application of conflict prevention mechanisms and mediation in armed conflict. This article reviews the development of both instruments, the current landscape of conflict mediation and its challenges, and stresses that political will to promote peaceful ways of resolving violent conflicts such as negotiation and mediation must be reclaimed. La guerra en Gaza y Oriente Medio, y entre Rusia y Ucrania, se superponen a más de cincuenta conflictos armados en el planeta. En un mundo cuyos contornos internacionales están en cambio, es más urgente que nunca reclamar la aplicación de los mecanismos de prevención de conflictos y la mediación en conflictos armados. Este artículo revisa el desarrollo de ambos instrumentos, el panorama actual de la mediación en conflictos y sus retos, y subraya que es preciso rescatar la voluntad política para promover las vías de resolución pacífica de conflictos violentos como la negociación y la mediación.
