| Abstract (English): |
Carpentier's dictator represents an ironic case of a translocal agent that is in constant negotiation with dissimilar social environments. In Europe, the potentate endeavors to live as an acculturated cosmopolitan, whereas in Latin America he relies on violence to maintain his rule and central position. What remains, however, is his agonistic eloquence: a stylistic and individual trait that serves as vehicle to reflect on power, its legitimacy, and justifications. Eloquence will allow us to contrast physical with discursive violence, highlight an aporia of power, and reflect on the symbolic coercion endured by migrants in a brutally Enlightened Europe. El dictador de Carpentier, caso irónico de agente translocal, vive en una constante negociación con entornos disímiles. Mientras en Europa intenta vivir como cosmopolita aculturado pero termina marginado, en Latinoamérica recurre continuamente a la violencia para defender su posición en el centro del poder. En ambos lados, no obstante, mantiene su elocuencia agonística: rasgo individual y estilístico que sirve de vehículo para ejercitar e, igualmente, reflexionar sobre el poder, sus justificaciones y legitimación. La elocuencia permite contrastar violencia física con discursiva, mostrar una aporía del poder y reflexionar sobre la coerción simbólica de una Europa brutalmente Ilustrada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
