The article begins with a reference to the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes and the diversity of means that international law makes available to States. Among these means, the International Court of Justice stands out as the principal international court and main organ of the United Nations. After a brief examination of the Court (its composition, jurisdiction, and procedures), reference is made to cases in which Spain has participated and, based on these, an overall assessment of the importance of the Court's jurisprudential action is offered. El artículo parte del principio de arreglo pacífico de las controversias Internacionales y la diversidad de medios que el Derecho internacional pone a disposición de los Estados. Entre estos medios, el Tribunal Internacional de Justicia destaca como principal tribunal internacional y órgano principal de las Naciones Unidas.
