Abstract (English):	The first part examines phenomena such as the rise of populist movements, the deterioration of democracy, increasing social polarisation and various forms of human rights violations. It also refers to the dictatorships that several countries in the region experienced during the 20th century. The second part studies the development of the Inter-American Human Rights System to understand the role of the Inter-American Court. It begins by analysing the OAS as the institutional framework that gave rise to the system. It then looks at the American Declaration as the first regional instrument and, subsequently, the American Convention, which establishes obligations for states and creates protection bodies. Finally, it analyses the role of the Inter-American Court in interpreting and applying the Convention, as well as the challenges it faces in the face of contemporary political and social changes. Abstract (Spanish):	Este trabajo analiza las nuevas dinámicas políticas que atraviesan los Estados del continente americano en el siglo XXI y su impacto en la protección de los derechos humanos. Primero se examinan fenómenos como el avance de movimientos populistas, el deterioro de la democracia, el aumento de la polarización social y diversas formas de violación de los derechos humanos. Además de hacer referencia a las dictaduras que varios países de la región experimentaron durante el siglo XX. En segundo lugar, se estudia el desarrollo del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos para comprender el papel de la Corte Interamericana. Se analiza la OEA como marco institucional que dio origen al sistema, la Declaración Americana como primer instrumento regional y, posteriormente, la Convención Americana, que establece obligaciones para los Estados y crea los órganos de protección. Finalmente se analiza la función de la Corte Interamericana en la interpretación y aplicación de la Convención, así como los desafíos que enfrenta ante los cambios políticos y sociales contemporáneos.
