The article recounts the exegetical research of Roman Catholic priest Antonio Persili into the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus as found in the New Testament Gospels. It describes Persili's quest to counter the trend away from seeking historical corroboration, comments on his resistance to trends that oppose faith to history, and considers how he decided to study the Gospel texts in their original Greek version. The author presents Persili's research into the text of the Gospel of John and its cultural background, discusses his findings concerning burial customs, and comments on how this has changed Persili's life. |
